Is it possible to use the insert mode to add notes or change the duration of notes without the chord symbols shifting like all the other notes do?
Welcome to the forum, @kjalar. Yes, you should find that chord symbols only move if you have the Insert scope set to one of the two global scopes: if you have it set to voice scope, or player scope, then you should find that the notes in the current voice or the current player will be shifted along, but global notations (like chord symbols, time and key signatures, etc.) should remain in the same place.
Thanks for the swift reply Daniel! Unfortunately this did not solve the problem, see picture. I increased the duration of the highlighted note with the Insert mode on and set to voice scope. The chords in the next two bars shifted, they are supposed to be on beats 1 and 3 in each bar, respectively. Then an additional bar of an eighth note was added, bar 49, after then the chord symbols match up again. This seems to be because of the double barline, I fiddled around a bit and if I changed the double barline to a single the chords in bar 50, 51, 52… would also shift (until the next double barline appeared) and no extra bar was created.
Are those local chord symbols, rather than global ones, perhaps?
That could be, is there a way to change them to be global ones, or to have it be that way by default?
When you double-click one of the chord symbols to open the popover, do you see the icon that indicates that the chord symbol is local?
If you’re not sure what that looks like, you’ll see it on this page:
Ah I see, no they are all global
I’m sorry to say that I’ve led you a merry dance here: I’ve just had a closer look, and in fact chord symbols are currently adjusted when you edit with Insert mode scope set to either of the global scopes or the player scope: only if you have the scope set to the current voice are they left alone.
Sorry, I don’t really get it. If I change insert mode to global, the chords still shift. So does that mean my chord should be inserted differently than the usual shift & Q? So they’re not affected? Thank you.
Insert mode must be set to voice scope. If it is set to player scope, or to either of the global scopes, the chord symbols will move.
