Insert Search: Search vst presets instead of plugins

This could be a different way of doing things, presented in the form of a tab-page:

for example searching “Smash Compressor”.

Theoretically this can already be done if you just use MediaBay/Right Zone

But this would allow quicker in-the-moment access that would have logically set up columns: Plugin | Type | Name | Rating

Also, the plugin-manager filter could ideally be tied into this preset search page as well. So that only plugins organized in the users plugin manager folder are present in the .VSTpreset search.

This would obviously also be absolutely fantastic for VSTi search as well

I’m not 100% confident in that.

For the moment, temporarily forget about your feature request, and focus on how MB works. I like what you are requesting, but did you check this behavior by shutting down Cubase then restarting?

Under User Content, around C8 there was a major change to MB with the introduction of a new MB auto-scan. I’m testing this on C14.

Try this:

  1. Under User Content>VST3 presets> (choose your favorite developer and plug-in) For this example I’ll choose Waves RCompressor Stereo. Inside that, I have folders for specific projects.

  2. Sometimes, when doing a search, you don’t want certain folders to be included. And that may be on a more permanent basis. So in this example, I have unchecked both Opus 7 and Opus 8 folders.

The behavior works as intended, except if you close Cubase and restart, the auto-scan happens again and those folders that the user intentionally wanted unchecked, get re-checked.

IMO it’s a lousy behavior. Why auto-scan with no option? Attempting to make MB more user friendly? The least they could do is offer an option to turn off auto-scan.

I’ll check to see if this behavior remains in C15. It’s been this way ever since C8.

I perhaps wasn’t thinking about that level of integration.

I don’t really imagine my FR to be a fully fledged Media Browser, just a stripped down purpose built static one.

Although, perhaps there could be a cogwheel to customize search locations.

edit

I was just talking about the Plug-In Manager chooser itself being a search filter for which plugins .vstpresets would yield
