Example of what I want to do.
I have a 4/4 bar, then a 3/16 bar, then two 4/4 bars. Between these latter two 4/4 bars I would like to insert a single 3/16 bar without having Dorico add any additional bars between the said two 4/4 bars. I have tried everything I can think of an cannot do this.
You need to turn on Insert Mode. This will push/pull everything forward/backward when you add music.
I think the method will be to turn it on > add a single bar of the current time signature > delete the required amount of beats from that bar to make 3/16 > turn Insert Mode off > add the 3/16 time signature to that bar. Someone feel free to correct me - Iām on my phone!
I believe that this will work, though it does seem a bit convoluted. Maybe this is the only option with Dorico?
This worked for me, without insert mode:
- Select the first note of the second bar and insert 3/16 by using the Shift+B popover and entering
3x
- Select the former first note of the second bar and insert a 4/4 meter change
- Select the 3/16 bar and add a 3/16 time signature
Edit: Even less disruptive:
- Select the first note of the second measure and insert a 4/4 time sig
- Select the barline in between the two measures and do Shift+B,
3x
- Select the 3/16 bar and add a 3/16 time signature
Thank you so much. I will give this a try.
Michael
It is really important for you to get comfortable understanding how Dorico handles musical time as something different from bars and barlines.
