Insert silence in Cubase Essential?

Working with a composition, I suddenly found out that I wanted to insert a few bars in the middle. Now, I am trying to figure out how to do this, without “loosing the beat”. One reasonable way seems to be to insert silence, i.e. blank bars, but how do you do that in Cubase Essential 5.1.1.?

I tried to proceed by setting locators for the range, and then use Edit\Range\insert silence. However this option is greyed out… (only works in the full version, or what??).

So, any suggestions?

You sure the locators aren’t backwards? Line connecting them should be blue, not red

yes, it is blue. What I perhaps should add is that I am trying to do this in the key editor, not in the project window.
