Newbie Dorico Elements 5 Mac user here, trying to do some very basic things. I’ve watched several of Anthony’s videos, including the one about “Inserting Notes.”
The measure is a simple “quarter note, half note, quarter note” phrase. What I’m trying to do is insert a half note on beat 2, (there’s already a quarter note on beat 1,) and then a quarter note on beat 4. When I change the current quarter note on beat 2 to a half note, and then try to put a quarter note on beat 4, Dorico changes the half note back to a quarter note.
What am I missing?

Does the half note get changed to two tied quarter notes or does it literally go back to a single quarter note (half the duration)?
Some screenshots could be helpful.

Thanks for responding and so quickly. It would go back to single quarter notes. I went back and was going to get some screenshots and suddenly the condition went away.
As I said, I’m still a total newbie and so who knows whether or not I was in the right mode, or even understanding the use case. I did manage to complete the transcription with a modicum of facility so I am grateful for that.
Now I just need to figure out how to get the audio output to work. I’ve followed the tutorials but I cannot figure out how to get it to play the score on my MacBook. All my other native apps play through my receiver’s speakers, but not Dorico.
