Hey all, I have a few questions about how you insert sections of audio into existing audio within the montage. It’s a bit hard to explain, apologies if this gets overly wordy.

Is there a way to match/sync two files’ waveforms within the montage timeline? Say I have a mix that I mastered, and then the artist sends a new mix with just a small section changed, is there a way to have wavelab scan and align the two files in time? I’ve been just lining them up visually on separate tracks by picking a transient and zooming in all the way to the sample level. But this is time consuming and sometimes with certain material (ambient, acoustic, classical) it doesn’t feel quite close enough.

In the above scenario, do you use crossfades between the newly inserted audio and the previous mix, assuming they’re identical at the edit points? Or since it’s ideally sample accurate, is there no need for a fade? I’ve been putting a very small fade (50ms or so) just to be safe.

Sometimes I need to put a plugin on just a small section of a song. To do this I split the song clip twice, once on each side of the section, and then fade between them. When I do this I get a very short, full-bandwidth digital pop at each of the two crossover points. This happens whether I use a short fade, very long gradual fade, or no fade at all. I know the obvious solution here used to automate the plug-in, but there are scenarios when that workflow isn’t ideal.

When consolidating (bounce function) multiple sections of audio into a single file, is there a way to tell wavelab not to bake in the volume automation, fades, plugins, etc?
If you’ve made it this far you’re a saint, thank you!
