Inserting blank score pages

I’m looking to insert 2 pages into a big band score in order to add another 12 bar solo phrase. I read in Dorico Help that to do this I need to be in Engrave mode, highlight the page I want the new pages to appear before, right-click, then click on “Insert pages”. I make sure the drop-down menu is on “Before page” 10, but no matter what I choose among “None”, “Default”, and “First”, the new pages appear at the end of the piece as blank pages with no staves, instrument names, etc. What am I doing wrong?

Erm? NO!
Just insert the music in Write mode and Dorico will sort out the extra pages for you.

I’ve tried that, and the result is page 9 (in this case) having an extra 12 blank measures on it that are microscopic. I want a page and a half of empty measures, using my 8 measures per page score format.

Ok, I did it again and still got page 9 as 8 tiny measures with 12 tiny blank measures following. I hit Reset Layout in Engrave mode and it made pages 9, 10, & 11 a normal 8 bars, but the measures on pages 10 and 11 aren’t spaced evenly. Will this straighten itself out once I input notes in the new blank measures I added?

Yes, hopefully.

The golden rule of working in Dorico is: “Don’t worry about layout until all your notes are entered”. A corollary of that is “Write your notes using Galley (or Fill) view.” Then you won’t be tempted to think about layout (until all your notes are entered)!

(And, yes, I know the golden rule may need to be broken sometimes…)
