Hi,
here’s a problem I’ve never had before…
I want to insert multiple mono files into a mono track in an audiomontage.
Although they are clearly mono files, the following message appears:
Where’s the problem?
Thanks, grello

Maybe WaveLab falsely interprets two files as a dual-mono file and wants to combine them to stereo (possibly the first two). What happens when you click OK?
If I’m right, you can look at your settings in Preferences → Audio Files → File and uncheck Allow Opening of Dual Mono Files or set a different rule.
Yes, probably, I see you are a very experienced WaveLab user

When clicking ok nothing happens.
But how can WL interpret two files with different file-sizes as a stereo-file?

Thank you, this is the solution in this special case.
But sometimes I want to open Dual Mono Files…
Let me repeat: how can WL interpret two files with different file-sizes as a stereo-file?
Because it apparently is not checking the filesize/length of the files for a match. I do not see a real problem here, as long as the starting points match (in case you indeed have a dual mono pair).
Doing a quick test it apparently isn’t even checking for a matching sample rate and will just use the sample rate of the first file/left channel for the created stereo file and insert the samples of the second file as they are to the right channel - so the resulting audio will be out of sync and pitch. This indeed might be a problem, if you don’t pay attention on your files.
If you don’t want to disable the dual mono identification, you should change the interpretation rules as already mentioned. So maybe change the recognition from “01/02” (which could be the default for Name Interpretation #1) to “_01/_02” or anything else you know for certain won’t interfere with normal file opening.
WaveLab only interprets dual-mono files according to the naming pattern. It does not check the number of samples. Even if it did, this would not solve your case, I mean, if you want to insert file_01 and file_02 as mono files, and they happen to have the same length.
When the manual says to use this only when needed, and providing this is affecting montage and the audio editor, can this be split for Audio Editor, Montage? Why is WL keeping this on by default then?
As you can see in the Batch Processor, it is turned off by default and is working independent from the settings for Audio File. I think it may be good for this checkbox having option to become persistent.
Suggestion:
In Audio Montage when import having a checkbox (persistent)
Keep Allow Dual Mono in settings for Audio File preferences or elsewhere visible, only for Audio Editor.
