Inserting music text: how to create a dotted note

I’m using the “Insert Music Text” in text creation, and want to include a dotted note symbol. I see multiple options for non-dotted notes, but do not see how to make, e.g. dotted half note, incl. in the library of options. I add a period instead, but it is low down and I prefer the dot in the correct position. How to do this?

When you select “Insert Music Text…” you’ll see only the Recently used glyphs.

Click on Recently used and enter indiv in the search field (not the search field on the top), then select individual notes. There are all durations including the dot.

Thanks, this is useful. However, I’m having a couple of issues. First, the notehead is far from the augmentation dot – and the latter is either too high or too far away. See screenshot below.

Second, the notehead is small, where is the option to change font size?

The one which is too low is propably a MetNoteHalfUp, while the other one is a NoteHalfUp

Any way, I recommend you to have a look at MusGlyphs font.

It’s pretty much essential to have it when using Dorico. Here on the left with Insert Music Text, and on the right with MusGlyphs. Better result, and much easier!

Thanks. Looks like MusGlyphs is a paying add-on; I’ll look into. But I’m surprised there is no reasonable option for a dotted note under “Insert Music Text” built-in – no other alternatives?

You are asked for a contribution, but you can download it for free if you choose.
(Though it is definitely worth a contribution)

Good to know. I’ll do it. What are the other uses/advantages of it? and how do I access/install?

It’s just a font that you install like any other font. And there’s a PDF that comes with it to explain what you can do.
