Anyone know how to “install Again” from Download assistant without having to re-download the files ?
I already have them all in the download folder.
On MacOS, the items in the download folder are .dmg files you can open and install from. I presume Windows does something similar, but I don’t know. You can just run whatever product you want to install from there.
Since the install files are already there, then the “install again” button in Download Assistant should work, but I’ve never left downloads on my file system long enough to try that
Thanks - I’m W11. And Install Again ALWAYS seems to download again. I cannot find a way to prevent it. It overwrites the downloads each time.
You can just start the installer directly from your download directory.
TRUE but where do the vstsound files go ? Does it matter where? how are they grouped ? should they be do they need to be etc etc
OK, I could use media bay to move them but that’s not really intuitive as to location. ie… into Programdata/steinberg/content which just happens if you use download assistant.
Your “Library Manager” will tell you where the libraries are stored on your drive (and will let you move them where you want them). Note that the library files are “collections” of sounds - you need to be in Media Browser or Media Bay to view the individual loops/sounds represented in the library.
Maybe if you actually describe what you’re trying to do someone could help better (not trying to sound snippy, just not really clear on what you’re hoping to accomplish )
The sound files are managed by the Library Manager, there you can work with your VSTs.
To register a VST you can do a double click on the vstsound file, which makes it available.
Yep// aware of this but which one goes where and does it matter remains a mystery to me. Some are un HALION folder (on disk) some are in VST folder, some have multiple files per instrument some don’t… there’s a lot of them to sort through when it comes ti downloading and installing
But as you say, Library Mgr and Media Bay should be able to define which goes where. Question is… HOW does Library Mgr know I’ve downloaded them ? and which Instrument they belong to when there multiple per instrument ?
I need to read the manual and find out I guess
Ah, two different classes of question - I think I see. After you download your product selection with Download Assistant, they get installed and Library Manager will automatically know they are there. @JuergenP’s suggestion of re-registering the library is a good one. Using Pop Guitar 2 as an example, you’ll see the “library collection” in Library Manager as just one file called “Pop_Guitar_2.vstsound” and is 1.54GB.
It shows up in Cubase under Loops and Samples in the Media Tab:
And if you drill down you’ll see the individual loops contained in that one system file:
In Media Bay, they’ll show up under VST Sounds and not only can you drill down to the folder you want (shown below) but you can search for them and everything else based on all manner of filters. I recommend you YouTube some MediaBay videos and get the hang of how that all works.
