Install cubase on external drive

I want to instaal cubase 15 le on my ecternal drive. I cannot find a way to do that. It seems that the installation is destined for my default c-drive. And there is not enough room overthere. So what to do?

Hi,

Cubase can be installed on the system C drive. It is specified like this. Any other location is not supported.

The Cubase application is not the biggest one. The content is significantly bigger. You can change the content location in the Steinberg Library Manager.

Hi @Martin.Jirsak ,
I know that it’s not supported but I think it works, no? However, I also remember that this caused some issues in the past if I am not mistaken?

Thank you for your answer. I think you are talking about the VSL’s for example. The thing is these can be transferred to another location. But for that to work they must befirst installed on de c drive. So that doesn’t give a solution. Am I right?

I thank you for your comment. It’s been noticed.

I believe you can set the default location for content in library manager which affects all future installs…the vst itself will still be installed to c but all the larger content library files install directly to your chosen path.

Well, that’s what I did. But then only the installationfiles went to that location. And starting the installation I got the message that there is not enough room on my drive.

I looked again and it seems that you are right! I will try, thank you.

Hi,

I don’t want to recommend an unsupported (risky) solution, sorry.

Exactly. Like the update might not work anymore. Therefore, I don’t want to recommend an unsupported (risky) solution.

Hi,

This is the way to go.
