I am about to buy Cubase 15 PRO that is about 85GB with sounds and stuff. I need to know if I during the installation process will be asked where I want to store the sound libraries. I want all these massive sounds libraries to end up on my external hard drive so it would be nice to be asked where to store them before the Cubase installation store them on my system disk by default.

I recommend setting your default library location BEFORE you start installing. It won’t ask “during.” Note that there are 2 different locations to consider:

The download location for the installation files themselves. This is where the installation files will be downloaded so they can be executed after download. This is NOT where your libraries will install to.

The default LIBRARY location where the installer will put your libraries when installing.
The Download folder will be your default download location (on macOS anyway). You may not care about that, but they take up space until you delete them after the installation of all products completes. If you want the temporary downloads to be on your external drive too, before downloading, change the location in the Steinberg Download Assistant:
Again, BEFORE installing, to change your default Library location, that must be done in the Steinberg Library Manager here:
Set those two default locations FIRST, then install. Note again that you probably don’t need to change the default Download, but you’ll have to go back and delete those temp files after your installation is complete to free up that space.

After trying to install two libraries by default because I was curious about where and how fast they landed in the default directory I then followed your instructions and it worked just fine!
