I’ll be teaching a class on Dorico for Handbell composers. I am installing Aria Player and the Garritan Instruments for Finale to get the handbell sound and hit disk full.
Yes, first complaint (which I know has nothing to do with Dorico) is Microsoft creating a tablet with insufficient space for all the apps Microsoft insists must be installed and can’t be uninstalled while having enough space for what I really want to do on it.
Sigh.
I think I’m about 40Mb short.
I see that on this tablet there are Steinberg programs and I’m wondering if I really need to keep them installed. These are:
Steinberg Activation Manager, 76.9 Mb
Steinberg MediaBay, 159Mb
Steinberg Download Assistant 215Mb
What happens if I uninstall them?
You’ll need the Activation Manager to activate the licence, at least. Whether you can then remove it without breaking the licence, I’m not sure.
The MediaBay is part of HALion.
You don’t need the SDA, though it does show you what updates are available. If you are running a “minimal” Dorico environment, then perhaps it’s not necessary.
Presumably, you’ve taken into account that both the OS and the disk itself needs some free space to function correctly?
You can uninstall the Steinberg Download Assistant, but to install future updates to Dorico 6 and the software components on which it depends, you will need to follow the instructions in this webpage:
After deleting everything I dared, including SDA, I still didn’t have enough disk space to install the Aria player and all its files. So I’ll work with HALion and forego the handbell sound.
The tablet disk is way too small.
