I created a project with multiple flows; oboe, trpt, voices and strings. When I get to the new flow with the same instruments, it lists them as Oboe 2, trumpet 2, etc. how do I get rid of that? I look into setup with instruments listed and after 4 flows, it shows oboe 1,2,& 3 etc.
Dorico numbers identical instruments automatically. It sounds like you unintentionally got multiples of your instruments. Did you import XML files? If you post a version of your project here, we can figure out what’s happening right away. (You can even delete the music, but leave the setup and the flows.)
In the scored that follow it lists Violin IV, etc. Quite a mess to learn how to straighten out. Here’s another pix further down the list.
Here’s how I would handle the mess:
- Ensure that the first instruments (the ones you want to keep) are assigned to every flow
- Create a temporary layout that includes just the Oboes and copy (or move) all the Oboe 2, 3, etc. material to Oboe 1. The “Select to End of Flow” command is essential for this.
- Do the same with each instrument that has multiples. You could reuse the same temporary layout and just change the instrument assignments.
- As soon as you’re confident that all the music has been copied out of one of these extra instruments, you can safely delete it on the left side
On it. Many thanks
