How do I make it so that there is a multi-bar rest at the beginning, but it appears on a 1 line?
I’m afraid there’s unfortunately no way to force Dorico to show one instrument rather than another in the context of an instrument change (except by adding something – note, chord symbol region — in the staff, which will break the multi-bar rest). It would be great if this were possible.
Meanwhile, I’m afraid you’ll need a tricky workaround if you really need to achieve this — the same one as here:
Which means: add a pickup bar at the beginning, enter a note in the Gran Cassa staff, hide it, remove the rests in the other staves, hide the barline and adjust the spacing in Engrave Mode. in order to hide the pickup bar…
I can try to make a demo if you want (but I hope someone can provide a better solution! I might be missing something obvious.)

Note that I had to use my custom shortcuts so the video wouldn’t be too heavy — you’ll have to use the Options/Menus/Properties instead
Ctrl+E : Toggle Galley View/Page View
Ctrl+Shift+F3/F2 : Disable/Enable Multi-bar rests
Ctrl+Shift+Alt+H : Hide Notehead+Stem+Ledger Line
F5 : Engrave Mode Note Spacing
F2 : Engrave Mode Graphic Editing
F10 : Show/Hide Signposts
Note also that I’m hiding the rests in the pick-up bar by making them transparent: that’s because there are no notes in these staves in your cutdown project, so Remove Rests doesn’t work. In your real project, you should be able to use Remove Rests instead.
