so in setup mode i right-selected the instrument i want the name changed and selected Rename Player. did the change. it’s changed in the left column but not in the score.
That layout is probably set to show instrument names, rather than player names.
(Layout options>Staves and systems>Staff labels)
If you click on the “>” left of the player name, you probably see the instrument the player holds still is Voice
Edit: as Janus wrote, you can go and change the label to player name instead of instrument name.
You can also change the instrument to Soprano
