Not that I’ve ever found. (That’s why I adopted the lovely British term “fiddly” in my earlier response.) I always wrote down the numbers for each of the top few staves, so I could reallocate them when I needed to.

This has just bit me. I have a tenor sax player who doubles on flute. Very strange to have the flute appearing in the tenor sax position in the score.

As noted above, one can give the instruments to separate players but combine the two players in a single layout. Judicious use of Hide Empty Staves and System Breaks should let one cover the part for both instruments with a single layout.
