Instrument Name Colliding with Instrument Number in Staff Labels

Anyone know how I’ve jumbled my settings to have this happen?

Trying to have all my doubling woodwinds condensed like Flute 1&2 (when playing together), but when doubling - for it to be:

Oboe / English Horn or Bb Clarinet / Bass Clarinet

Any ideas?

unless that’s maybe not possible and I should just have to suffice with having everything labeled Oboe 1, Oboe 2, English Horn… even though that’s not ideal…

although, that then creates a problem of the Oboes not condensing when they’re playing together…

A pickle!

Can you share the file?

Jesper

Have you set the Layout Option to allow instrument changes on condensed staves?

After some finagling, I’m narrowing in on an answer…

Has to do with Engraving Options > Staff Labels > Horizontal Position.

Posting what it’s like with the second line set to 4 and and set to 6.

But now, I have the problem of my doubling instruments not being aligned with the rest of the woodwinds.

Reduced File Attached, thanks

here you go

staff label misalignment example.dorico (1.7 MB)

and this had no effect, but thanks for giving it a shot!

I may be misremembering, but I don’t think you can condense instruments with different transpositions.

Some of your instrument numbering are manual (“Flute 1”) and some are not.

You could try: Setup Mode > Setup Menu > Reset Instrument Names (but it will turn back all instrument names to the defaults, which maybe you don’t want), or one by one (for flute, clarinet…)

Ah, Charles you hit the nail on the head. In experimenting with solutions, I forgot to set my Flutes, Oboes and Clarinets back to the standard. With them both being the same name, that solves it. (With the Engraving options I mentioned earlier) Thanks all!!
