Instrument name cut off

Any time I open a part from a score, this is what the name looks like. The name at the top of each page is also cut off. I have not discovered how to manage this, though I’m sure there’s a simple solution.

Also, on the same token, how do I get rid of boxes on text? This is what my instrument change looks like and I’m not a fan. I like the way “To E. Pno” is without the box, but the other box seems super unnecessary.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi @mrbuddyro, something is going on with your Page template, or with the fonts. Please upload a Dorico file that shows this behaviour, and we can give specific suggestions.

Anyway, you can deactivate the border for the Instrument change paragraph style:

Untitled Project 1.dorico (529.9 KB)

Still does the same thing with a blank template.

Probably you want to use Finale Maestro TEXT for the layout name, not Finale Maestro.

Your Default Text Font of the paragraph styles is set to Finale Maestro which is a music font. Change it to the default Academico or another text font in Library > Paragraph Styles.

I was not aware there’s a difference. That actually solves a lot of weird problems I have been experiencing with texts and boxes being way too big for no reason. Thanks all!!

If you want a one click solution, go in menu Library>Music Fonts, choose Bravura (leaving the two check boxes activated) and Dorico will take care of the fonts, using its built in ones
