Instrument names between score and parts

I’m working on creating a template where at the beginning of the score the instrument names will look like this.

I’d like to use tokens in the part layouts so that I can automatically provide the same information with the same formatting, however I’m finding it difficult to make it happen, since {@staffLabelsFull@} doesn’t carry over formatting. And since changing the staff label actually changes the instrument’s name, then anything that displays instrument lists will display:

Marimba (low A) +glockenspiel +bongos
Glockenspiel
Bongos

Is there something like a “part info” dialogue where I can input this information and use tokens to display it on the parts, similar to how titles/composers/etc. work in “project info”? Or will this be something I’ll have to do manually on every part?

Welcome to the forum @John77 (I saw your other thread (PS you don’t need to create a second thread - just edit the one you create first etc))

I think this kind of thing will require a workaround.

Thank you! And thanks for the tip! I’ve come across this forum a ton in my Dorico journey, but never actually used one to make my own threads, so figuring it out.

That’s what I was afraid of. I suppose I’ll do it manually until I can find an alternative.

Could you use the player name instead?

Hi Jesper,

How did you get line breaks in the player name?

Can these be formatted with different fonts/sizes? I need “Marimba” to be larger as that’s the main instrument, and “(low A) +glockenspiel +bongos” to be in a smaller, thinner font.

This may have made more sense if I had used “Percussion 1” as the example instead of marimba, but I’m basically trying to list the main instrument in a larger font, and the rest in a smaller font. For example:

Percussion 1
glockenspiel
bongos

I entered them in the other info field under Project info, and copy/pasted them in to the Players name. You could use any text editor also, of course. I’m not sure if you can have different font size/style, though.

Perhaps combine tokens.

But that will not work for the staff labels. You can also paste text with line breaks into the staff labels field.

For the Layout Names, the markdown syntax works (which allows to bold a word, for example)

But not for the Player Names, unfortunately…

Ah, I tried with the players name.

This copy/pasting thing definitely opens up so more options into what I’m looking for, so thanks so much for that!

Combining the tokens is what I was expecting to do, and doing it with layout/player names works! A bit of a weird work around, but it gives me some more insight into some more things to try. I think a “part info” dialogue (similar to the “project info” dialogue, but for parts) would be really nice for situations like this. Although I’m sure for most people in most situations it would be a bit redundant.

Markdown working in Layout Names is really interesting to know. Doesn’t quite fit my needs at the moment, as I need the non-bold words to be in a smaller font, but I’ll for sure file this info away for later.

You can also use character styles.

Works with Player names also.

Wow this is awesome, there are so many possibilities. Thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely make use of these somewhere.

You have to create the character styles first under Library->Character styles.

Wow, great, @jesele!

I can’t get it to work here with Player Name (it works with Layout Name)

Try this file. Ah, yes, it doesn’t work for the staff labels. But if you use player labels instead of layout name in the part.
Edit: So sorry, @charles_piano, not so great after all.

Thanks @jesele . I thought about character styles as the answer reading the OP, wondering if they worked in Staff labels… Let’s make this a feature request!
