I ran into an issue with this XML file (from Sibelius). If I try to change any instrument, or add a new instrument, the names are always in French. My Preferences are set for English as default (including Instrument names). The Instrument Library lists the instrument names as French (except for the initial MELODY [VIBRAPHONE (in score)].
No matter what I try, all instrument names resort to French labels. I’ve had to copy/paste into a new file to get the English labels. This seems to be only an issue with this file; new files or edited old files works as it should.
Oh, and this came immediately after updating to the latest version. Any idea what’s going on with this file? I’ll include the original musicXML if it’s not too large.
Well, duh… I didn’t even know there was a Language option for staff labels in Engraving Options. Too many places to look for language changes… thanks, Daniel!
(I sure like to know how that ever got set to French though… I’ve imported hundreds of files from Sibelius into Dorico, and never saw that happen before.)
This Sibelius project must have something specific to it. It might be worth going into Sibelius to inspect the original project.
Lyrics, instrument names, composer name - a text of any kind could trigger the .xml export in a certain way. That’s just my guess…
If I remember rightly, Dorico sets this option during MusicXML import if its heuristics for working out which instruments are included in the MusicXML file suggest that the names are in a language other than English.
