Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I’m having difficulty finding my exact situation somewhere else.
I’m working on a new edition of George Chadwick’s Symphony No. 1, and all four horn players must hold multiple “instruments” due to transposition changes throughout the work. In Engraving Options, if I have “number together” chosen, I get this mess:
I see that I can get around this by assigning unused instruments to each player so they all have the same complement of transpositions, but it seems silly to add clutter that serves absolutely no purpose, doesn’t it? Is there anything in the roadmap that would allow for instrument groups like this to be counted as a set instead of individually?
I would probably use the Engraving Option that comes closest to my expectations and then edit the names of the Horns manually in Setup Mode.
There might be better ways (like grouping instruments in Setup Mode), but I can’t check as I am not in front of the computer.
I’d like to add my 2c: Dorico does condense only the first instrument held by a player. So you probably would want to have more players (that you can put in the same layout) and deal manually with the instrument changes, while retaining the condensing groups feature…
