Intermittent dropouts with Cubase 12 on M1 Max Studio

Hi all,

I’ve been having an issue with intermittent dropouts ever since switching over to Apple Silicon with my M1 Max Studio running Mac OS Monterrey. Sometimes it’s tolerable as it doesn’t happen often (or sometimes not at all). And then sometimes, it’s every few seconds which is pretty unusable. For example, as soon as I started up this AM, I was getting dropouts every couple seconds. But now I just listened through the entire song twice without a single dropout.

Here’s all the facts:
-M1 Max Studio 32gb ram, project running off SanDisk Extreme external SSD via USB-C.
-RME Babyface Pro (USB 2.0 routed through a KVM switch)
-Cubase 12.0.7 Running under Rosetta 2

  • ASIO Guard running around 47% (surprised about this).
  • no wifi running, using direct ethernet connection.

Interestingly, have had no problems at all on my Windows machine running the exact same project (less the SSD).
I have some theories on why this is happening, but I’d like to see what the community thinks here.

Thanks for any thoughts everyone! :).

I’ve kinda had similar issues but I think some plugins have been updated and need reloading and reconfiguring. I’ve had a problem with SSL360 , sound ID and the newest version of Komplete Kontrol.
I’m running Ventura in Apple silicon Cubase 12.
On looking into my problem I found a post about the asio guard bug. Apparently if you delete the stereo output and then set it up again it solve that particular problem.

It’s hard to figure out what’s related and what’s not.
