I’m using the Envelope Follower modulator to duck the delay on a vocal track. The dial on the modulator keeps changing back to a previously set value, even if I remove the modulator, add a new instance and set a different value.
This is not specific to one project, either. Has anyone else had (or been having) the same issue?
No. I don’t use automation on the EF Modulator in particular. I use it predominantly as a ducking facility (as you can see from the negative value on the Modulation Depth control), so it does what I need it to do without the need for automation.
What’s most puzzling is that even when I remove the EF Modulator and replace it with a new instance, the dial still jumps back to a value that was previously set, sometimes immediately after changing the value and other times after a few minutes or longer/shorter.
It’s gotten to the point where I’m afraid to use it, especially in a mixing scenario.
Apologies for the delay in replying. I understand what you mean, now… and no… there was no automation on any part of the plugin or any part of that channel.
A more recent example: I imported a wav file (saxophone) into an existing (totally different) project, did the necessary gain staging, added a reverb send and adjusted the level to taste; no automation whatsoever was added to the channel. Once I had done all of that, I added an Envelope Follower modulator and linked it to the reverb send level, to serve as a ducker. After playing through the track a few times, the dial level automatically changed – the send level was set to -18 before I added the modulator; it changed on its own to -4. 67.
It has become excruciatingly frustrating because
I cannot figure out what could be causing this to happen
no one else seems to be having this problem
I can no longer trust the Envelope Follower modulator, albeit a Cubase stock function.
I tried to replicate your issue without success.
You can try if the stored preferences have a negative influence. For testing purposes you can try to go to Edit → Profile Manager… and create a NEW profile there. Then please activate it and restart Cubase.
If the problem still persists you can switch back to your previous profile at any time.
