Irrational brackets

Dear friends,in pic 1 you can see the galley view of my work. You can see the instruments “Eisenfass” (Abbr. “Efs.”, part of the drum section, connected with the drums by a bracket), “Sprecher” (Abbr.: “Spr.”) and “Modus” (Abbr. “Mod.”). I do not want to connect that 3 instruments by brackets. But in page view the “Spr.” is connected with “Mod.” How can I correct it? In Engave Window this bracket is locked; I cannot delete this. Thanks!

Ludger, it might be an idea to go to Setup Mode and put all percussion instruments into one group - without the Eichenfass.

Another option would be, to show all instruments in the first system temporarily (Layout Options->Staff visibility), go into Engrave Mode, pull the brackets how you like them (it should be possible), then disable visibility of all instruments in the first system again.
If you have more than one flow, you would have to repeat this for each flow.

Thank you! The grouping of the percussion instruments (incl. Eisenfass) was successful, so that the Eisenfass is not connected by a bracket with the “Spr.”, but I have further the “irrational bracket” between “Spr.” and “Mod.” - Also the grouping of “Mod.” in an own group and the “Spr.” in another (“Vocal”- ) group wasn’t successful. “Another option would be, to show all instruments in the first system temporarily (Layout Options->Staff visibility), go into Engrave Mode, pull the brackets how you like them (it should be possible), then disable visibility of all instruments in the first system again.” > This also is not successful as I wrote in my request. I’m afraid, that’s a bug :frowning:

Ludger, just to confirm, if you go into Engrave Mode, select the bracket spanning between Spr. and Mod.:
can you definitely not delete the selected bracket?
Can you replace Modus with another instrument (and later rename it)?
And how did you create the Narrator (Sprecher) as a single staff “instrument”?

Dear kb,

thanks! Yes, I can definity not delete the selected bracket. The Spr. is a combined instrument “Countertenor & Sprecher” Sprecher (Abbr. Spr.) with counter tenor (“Countertenor”, Abbr. “Ct.”; see pics 1+2).

I can delete Modus, but in this case Spr. has an own bracket (I did not wrote, see pic 3).

Sorry if I ask again, what do you mean with combined instrument?
It looks you have one „player“ with two „instruments“, one of them being an alto singer (Countertenor), one of them being a narrators voice (Sprecher).
Dorico would handle these as instrument changes.

How did you create that instrument „Sprecher“ with one system line?

Yes, sorry, it is, what I mean: “Player with two instruments”. "How did you create that instrument „Sprecher“ with one system line?" It is a Bongo.

Consider that Instrument Families condition how Dorico brackets them. It would be better to create a custom Sprecher instrument, with an own custom family, instead of borrowing an unpitched percussion instrument.

It would be easier to give advice if you could share a cut-down version of those affected pages, to see what may be going on.

You’re right, thank you. Here you are!

Thank you for the file @Ludger_Vollmer . I think the combination of used instruments like the Bongo or the Low Anvil for the Sprecher and the Cello scratch confuses the bracketing, and somehow freezes it (probably because you are mixing the families, as I said earlier).

One thing that I find out is that if you separate the Cello scratch from the Cello, assigning the scratch to a new player , the manual bracketing is possible again:

@Christian_R , it was successful! Thank you so much for your competence, patience and your time!
