Irritations

Export Audio Mixdown File location, Name field. Can’t leave field with Tab key. Irritating.

When I save the project and then immediately close it, Cubase still asks “Do you want to save…” even though I just did. Irritating.

Can you hit the escape key?

This not advancing fields with the tab key (indeed very irritating) is new to Cubase 14. Using the Enter key works, but being able to advance fields with Tab is also a Windows convention, and what I’d generally used prior to Cubase 14 in this area (probably just decades-long force of habit in that hitting Enter in a field within a form would often close the form (or otherwise invoke whatever the default button for the form did, the most common one being “OK”), rather than just advancing to the next field while accepting the changes in that field). Even though I now know of the change (whether intentional or not), I typically forget and hit Tab most of the time, get frustrated, and then remember it’s only Enter that works now.

I haven’t tried Escape, but that would generally be used to not accept the changes in a field rather than to accept the changes. Not to mention that the Escape key is a lot farther from the text keys used for making changes in a field value so means moving your left hand on the keyboard, whereas tab can easily be reached without moving the hand (Enter can, as well).

Cubase (and a lot of other software) seems to suffer from the accumulation of more and more irritating quirks. Every version that comes out adds a couple, if not dozens more. Software developers seem to have this mentality where it doesn’t really matter as long as the majority of users except that’s just the way it is with software.
