Shh, don’t tell everyone lol
And hopefully Absolute will also be upgraded soon!
Questions now seem to be reduced to pricing upgrade level (and content for Absolute if any)…
there are some clues and indication that H7 will be released this week(not for sure of course),
but no pricing info ! obviously we will have all info on release date
Halion 7 out on Wednesday
Care to share your source?
I bird told me this afternoon.
well we have approximately 48 Wednesdays in a year
…and not necessarily any Wednesday in this year.
Isn’t it Greg ?
(Is Greg an AI ? … Sorry Greg )
Nothing like keeping your sources secret .
Come on Steinberg it’s 9am Monday morn and you haven’t released H7 yet
Steinberg Download Assistant and Steinberg Library Manager has been updated today. That sounds like release preparation.
Halion 7 a la vista baby
Steinberg has the best Teaser strategy: NO Teasers
Actually, when Halion (1) came out some 20 years ago, they had this small pop-up window on their website showing the modulation “ball” for a week leading up to the launch.
There are 52 Wednesdays this year and this is only the 7th. Maybe they will release it next Wednesday or When its Ready™.
It’s coming out tomorrow. I can feel it! Make it so, Steinberg!
Okay, while we wait, how do you think Haion 6 was compared to Halion 5? A massive improvement? Do you think Halion 7 will generally be a big upgrade/meet expectations?
I suspect it will be more of evolution then revolution. For me FM synth engine would be a nice revolution.
Pretty significant for me. H6 was a HUGE boost for people who want to build their own sounds and libraries. They did add quite a bit from H5 to H6. I personally use the H6 additions quite a lot.
-
User scripting via LUA
-
Tools to do custom UI/Macro screens.
-
Inboard Sampling tools. Prior to H6, you had to do your own sampling elsewhere. I.E. In the DAW and drag it into HALion. If you used H5 in stand alone and wanted to sample…you’d need to launch your own sampling app, and bring in the samples via the OS file selector, or OS drag and drop.
-
Addition of Wavetable and Granular synthesis.
-
Some improvements on how it integrates with Cubase.
-
Possibility to run from software eLicenser (no dongle).
-
Easier to analyze and export content that’ll be compatible with Sonic 3/SE.
-
Tools to pack and tag your own vstsound archives for sharing/distribution.
-
A free player, unlocked to work in any DAW (HALion SE). Very useful if you want to build content that anyone can use in almost any DAW without having to invest in full versions of Sonic/HALion. Prior to H6, the only way to run SE, was in a Steinberg host. Now SE even works as a stand alone player.
-
Easy to use Library manager (add/remove/move your content libraries with ease).
-
Scads of new sounds for the new Wavetable and Granular synths (Skylab, Anima). These sounds are all based on unlocked layers, and have the LUA scripts and UI unlocked to serve as solid examples or basis to expand upon or get examples for making your own UIs.
At some point from 5 to 6, Flux, and maybe some other synth libraries/layouts were released and shipped with Cubase for SE. Not sure if that comes with HALion as well (I.E. If you buy HALion but don’t have Cubase installed). My ‘guess’ is that a H6 key probably does at least unlock them (even if you have to go to the Cubase tab in Steinberg Download to grab them), but I could be wrong on that.
-
The addition of some quality pianos (Raven and Eagle). Again, the scripts and UI elements are unlocked for people who wish to dig into those and see how they were built, or even borrow elements and tactics to make your own.
-
Addition of Studio Strings and Hot Brass content. Not the most expressive set of sounds to me, but they are clean, simple, and quite usable for backing or layering in with other content. Main purpose of these instruments seemed to be to provide unlocked examples or templates to do user scripts/UIs for sustained acoustic instruments.
-
Other miscellaneous additions/corrections/fixes.
Not sure. Getting rid of the old eLicenser setup might be enough for some all by itself. No idea what else is on the map in terms of new features. If it’s like previous releases, there will probably be more content as part of the deal.
I do recall that 4 to 5 was a pretty big leap (Loads of new content, revamping more MIDI controlled stuff to VST, Note Expression, and the foundation of the UI/macro/scripting engine that users didn’t have access to yet, but they did include a lot of factory libraries that used it, and a small handful of after-market libraries used it as well), and 5 to 6 was even bigger. I figure H7 will add enough that it should be well worth the cost to upgrade for most of us. We’ll see…
