Is it possible to change the number of lines to the staff in a single bar of an instrument. I am writing a vocal score and want 1 bar of percussive technique, it would be useful if i could reduce it down to a single line.
I think this is a case for adding a second instrument to the player, and using an instrument change.

Depending on your intent, it could also be a good place to use a cue, say if its one bar of hand claps or something.
If that looks useful, the manual will explain way better than me, but you basically have to have the staff already with the rythmn/notes that you want to cue from (my theoretical hand claps staff though I actually used a Base Drum. Also- sorry about the chord name in the image.)
Then go to the staff where you want to add the cue and select the rest or whatever. Press SHIFT+U and start typing the instrument name you want to import the cue from.
Note that you will only get a signpost for the cue (which doesn’t print) in the main score. It is in the parts that you will see the cue. You can also hide/remove my theoretical hand claps staff from displaying in the main score at all.
You can choose if you want to see (and print) cues in the score.

If you right click on a bar in the top staff of a grand staff in Write Mode, you can select “Remove Staff” and then right click again on the restorative bar and say “Add staff below”
