I’ve noticed that in Cubase, when I enable input monitoring on a track, I can hear only the input signal on that specific track. However, when I want to listen to the arrangement playback (the previously recorded audio on the same track), I need to turn off the monitor button. I know that in some other DAWs, there’s a feature where both the input and the track’s arrangement playback can be monitored simultaneously without needing to toggle the monitor button each time.
Is there an option or setting in Cubase that allows me to monitor both the live input and the arrangement playback on the same track at the same time? It would be especially useful during recording sessions, where I want to quickly switch between hearing the input and the arrangement on that track without constantly toggling the “Monitor” icon on and off.
No, this is not possible in Cubase. But you can easily duplicate the track, keep one with the Monitor disabled and enable the Monitor on the other track.
Martin is right - you can´t hear both signals on the same track at the same time. That´s what you´ve been asking for in your first question.
From what I understand based on your second question is that you want to hear both signals on the same track one after another without manually switching between the signal source.
Set your Punch-In/Out points according to the section you want to record and activate Punch-In/out.
Go to Edit/Preferences/VST/Auto Monitoring and check either “While Record Running” or “Tapemachine Style” (both work in different ways but will do the job here).
Leave the Monitor button turned off and press Play at any time before your Punch-In/Out Zone. You´ll hear the track. When you reach the Punch-In/Out zone monitoring is atomatically enabled and turned off afterwards.
A totally different approach is to create an Audio Track whose only purpose is input monitoring. This lets you keep Monitoring & Recording independent of each other.
