I know that Dorico automatically hides tuned diferent tuned Brass instruments (Trumpets or Horns) in the Layout and show them in the finished Score as one single system that only changes if necessary from an Instrument of Tune to another. This is nice.
But while writing a score, I have all different Trumpets or Horns as seperate System in my Orchestral Sore and if the Piece has several movements with different Key and each time different Trumpets and Horns in Use, the Sore I write becomes a bit clumsy.
Is it possible not only to hide the player in those Movements, where (for instance no Timpani is in use) but likewise the different instruments of a Player which are not in Use only in a certain Movement? What means I can get in the Allegro Bb an C Trumpets and F an Eb Horn, which do no longer blow up my writingscore in the Movement where the same Player use only the D Trumpet and Horns in D ?
If you’re working in Page view, then this should all be taken care of with Condensing and Hide Empty Staves (in Layout Options > Vertical Spacing > Staff Visibility).
If you’re working in Galley view, then you can use Instrument Filters to show only the staves you want to see. Note that this is not an automatic process, so you’ll have to add a different filter for each movement and then switch filters appropriately as you move through the piece.
If one player plays multiple versions of the Trumpet or Horn, one can assign all those instruments to that Player and (in Page view) the extra staves should take care of themselves.
I know and that is indeed very smart. But I normally write in Galleyview, so I think I should work with Instrumentfilters as soon the changed Trumpets and Horns make it to difficult to follow the right system.
I didn’t expected it to be so easy and handsome to apply those Filters while working on an large Score. This is really a cool and useful feature. Thank you very much for the Hint!
