In example, load a kick sample to a sampler track first, and I set up the root key and range, and to other range I load a snare sample what I want to the same sampler track .. and set up the root key and range for snare.
You can have multiple sampler tracks and then set the range to one or two keys (different for each sampler track) - assign kick, snare samples and then arm all the sampler tracks which would give you a playable kit. Easier to use the drum track though.
The other thing you could do is to bounce kick snare hihat all on to one piece of audio and then splice it in the sampler track. Then youd have multiple samples on the one track.
This is a scenario where you would usually use Groove Agent (SE), there you can easily map drum samples to different MIDI notes (not ranges afaik, but that is usually not necessary with drums anyway).
