I’m using VEP on Windows 11 with Cubase 15.0.30. VEP and Cubase are on the same PC. I remember that in the past the indication was to disable ASIO Guard for the VEP Instrument plugin. Is this still a valid indication? In my quick tests it seems that disabling ASIO Guard gives slightly worse results.
Are there other VEP users that can give me advice?
In the past it was unusable with asio guard on, hence the advice. I don’t use VEP at the momemnt and dont own a recent version so cant test, but if you have no issues and better results (CPU load?) that is great to hear and of course your answer.
BTW which version are you on, latest?

I just upgraded yesterday to the latest VEP 8. Previously using VEP 7, and having CPU spikes now and then that created very loud noises in Cubase. I had to put a utility on the master bus that will cut the audio if it exceeds +3 dB TP. Honestly, I thought that ASIO Guard was deactivated for the VEP Instrument but I realized it wasn’t and tried changing it and it appeared to be a little bit worse, hence the reason I upgraded to the latest VEP given that they reintroduced introductory price
If you want help with getting it reliable. you will have to give some more info. LIke OS, audio interface, buffer settings and vep buffers. Also what you are loading into vep and what you are trying to achieve with it. Since you are using it on a local machine and not slave, why not load the plugins in cubase.
Oh and what CPU and your power plan settings. Is the cpu at a fixed freq?

I’m on Windows 11 but haven’t done the latest updates of it.
CPU is an Intel i9-12900K at fixed frequency (no overclocking)
I don’t remember my power plan settings but the original windows tweaking has been done by a guy that’s very good at Windows Audio optimization
Cubase is 15.0.30
VEP is the latest 8 version, but the noise problem started with VEP7, I just briefly tested VEP8 yesterday evening and it seemed a little bit better compared to VEP8 but still the noise problem manifested itself a few times
Audio Card is an RME RayDat with buffer size at 256,
I have 6 VEP instances, each with 2 buffers.
Only 2 things I can think of. Did you try running cubase and vep only on the performance cores using process lasso?
And just for testing did you try larger buffers, both on the raydat and with vep?
If anything fixes it that at least gives you some direction.
didn’t know of process lasso, the only time I forced one software to run only on performance cores I did manually with the task manager, thanks a lot for the tip!
Haven’t tried larger buffers yet, I try to have the latency low enough to play the instruments, but be surely do for testing purposes
