EQ affects level, sure. But overall level - not dynamics.
pffft … everyone knows compression just increases density. It lets you fit more guitar into a smaller space.
by the way, I hate you for linking that thread… f’n hilarious. Just what I needed was another time sink

more guitar — GOOD!!!

I loved this advice
“Think about how you would do it, then do the opposite”
that pretty much sums it up.

Worked for George Costanza
twilightsong: Jeff Hayat:…and I could easily give back any minimal dynamics lost compressing with a bit more eq on my mixer
I know this guy jp22 is not the brightest bulb, but… you DO realize that EQ affects volume, right?

He could ride his EQ knob, you know
He could ride his EQ knob, you know
Maybe he should - might give him pleasure

Maybe he shouldn’t - might embolden him… he might start to think he knows what he is doing
…butt then the embarrasment when he realizes that everyone knows what he’s doing…

Actually, that wouldn’t work either, because you’re raising and lowering the noise floor when EQing, so the dynamic range remains constant. How did I learn this? From reading the jp22 thread
