Such a simple thing but so useful…can also do it in reaper

I’m not familiar with Reaper, but maybe Snap to Zero Crossing is what you have in mind?
Thanks @rickpaul
Unfortunately not really anything like it ![]()
Maybe checkout wavelab/analyse/hotpoints or peaks, with “focus” etc
Hmm No
It where you are are checking files and need to know if there are any clips/overs as analysis and navitage through them…very important for mastering too
Yes, after your reply to my first response, I checked into the WaveLab function, and I’m pretty sure Cubase does not have anything equivalent. I remember Cakewalk SONAR (which I used for at least a decade and a half before coming to Cubase, had a show track/bus peak markers facility that could show this sort of thing. (SONAR also had a handy facility that Cubase doesn’t have where it could show visual waveforms for buses, so it was easy to get an idea of what was going on, even with the peak markers facility turned off.)
My thinking on the hitpoints idea was simply that, if you set the threshold high enough, it might be able to do something related to help on the underlying need. However, short of rendering tracks with effects, or exporting and reimporting mixes or submixes to get audio file from buses, it wouldn’t take into account what plugins are doing to the results. (I also don’t think just using WaveLab as an ARA extension would help in a live bus context, even if the facility you mentioned works within the ARA subset of WaveLab’s standalone functionality.)
The only other thing I can think of is using some analysis plugins that show some running history of what is going on (I think SuperVision might, and I know PSP Metra does, though it’s only 120 seconds of history, not enough for typical whole songs), but that would mostly be watching what is going on in real time, rather than being able to see at a glance where the overs are for the entire song. Perhaps, if some specific plugin kept a timestamped numerical list (it looks like YouLean Loudness Meter Pro can export a visual graph, but not numbers with timestamps), it would still mean needing to manually correlate the list to the position on the timeline.
Cheers
I’m prob missing something re sonar buss metering but it sounds interesting
I ended having a wavelab go serial so I just installed that…and as an ara would have been perfect is way more than needed for basic mixing…but its a quick check for problem files. Of course I just use audio/analyse/statistics as a KB shortcut. That just filters whether or not it has ant issues eg 0db peaks
I appreciate your comments but simple is good. I use to edit esses 1 by 1 back in the day and all the other insane time I would waste. These days its nearly all recorded music either tracked here or from clients. If it doesn’t feel good on the tracking I just get them to redo it…ironing it out post…a long way past doing that now although tweaks or for fx…no prob
This popped up because it was an ms recording of classical on a ribbon with huge proximity and 64 yr old Suzuki classical. It sounded amazing but there are some body hits here and there so the feature would have been great as it was and easy fix of some clips
Anyway cheers…have a workaround now
