Is there a preference or setting somewhere to change divisi/unison playback behavior?

The default playback method used with divisi and Independent Voice Routing has a glaring issue-
When you split violins divisi, you are splitting a violin section into smaller units.
If you take 16 players and do 4-way divisi, then naturally you would split 4+4+4+4, and therefore want the playback to be done with 4x instances of small ensemble/chamber strings. So, this is achievable with the current method (add the divisi and use IVR), but we have a problem when bringing the strings back to unison in the score: the playback will only occur on the 1st voice, thereby only constituting 4 players, and not all 16. For the playback to work properly, it should then output the unison line to all 4 voices assigned under the IVR (therefore playing back the whole string section, not just 1/4th of it).

Is there a preference or setting somewhere that deals with this?

No, at present there’s no automatic way to deal with this. Typically what people do at the moment is ensure that they use a separate voice for the divisi material on the first staff, so that they can leave the “main” voice on the full ensemble sound, and then use the divided sound only for the divisi section by assigning the divided sound to the extra voice used for the divisi passage.
