I have certain projects that take -forever- to load. But I cannot figure out exactly -why-. Is there something akin to a web browser inspector that will tell you which files are being loaded, in what order, and how long each is taking?
I ask because there’s often no rhyme/reason. (eg. samples on magnetic vs. SSD don’t seem to be the determining factor. I’ll freeze every VST and no difference in load time.)
Any link to the size in MB of the project?
Might be just one plugin causing it, try removing (not freezing) one by one. Don’t forget to change the name of the project, you don’t want to save over the original.
FWIW, I did a support chat today which pointed me to the current machine specs.
Apparently, the current requirement is 80GB of free space on the INSTALL DRIVE. (Normally the C drive.) Eighty? If true, that seems huge. For all my other resource-intensive apps (video) one can specify the location of a scratch disk (temp files).
Until recently, this was not a problem and I don’t see the logic here.
I don’t mind getting a larger install disk, but transferring a boot disk has never been a simple task.
Also, it’s a LOT of work if that doesn’t actually solve the problem.
I think the actual requirement is much lower than that. You need a lot of space for the sound content, if you care to install it. But that can also be downloaded and installed to another drive without any issues. To me it looks like 3GB are enough but if you want to be on the safe side just reserve 10GB for Cubase and put the rest onto a different drive.
Load times with SSDs are significantly shorter than with HDDs, stating the obvious.
Are you using VST2 plugins? It could as well be a VST2 plugin that causes the delay. Have you checked the box VST2 Plugins in the VST PLugin Manager way down below?
The assumption, I believe) is that the space is required for the installers as well as the actual installation. I think the installers are copied to the c: drive, and the required files are extracted then installed.
Assuming you do the whole lot at once. I only installed Cubase (1 gigabyte), the rest is irrelevant, to me.
Fair enough. But can you confirm what I was told: namely that freeing up 80GB of disk space on the INSTALL drive (in my case the C drive) is required (and would speed load time)?
This would be pretty easy to test. Just move a few large folders, like in program data, program files, or documents to another drive. Temporarily of course. If it is indeed lack of space, you should notice a difference pretty fast, maybe after 5 to 10gb moved.
But imho it should not make a difference, unless you have less then 1gb free. But then your whole computer should suffer and slow down
