Is there a way to display db values on volume automations?

Is there a way to display db values on the volume automation lines ?
(or even pan values on pan automations ?)
Visually you can see the automation lines, but if you want to make it more precise, or match the automation values for different project sections . . . there should be some kind of text display on the automation lines, or somewhere . . . anybody know if this exists and can be turned on, or maybe confirm it does not exist . . . I have searched, but found nothing about this.

Hi, I’m not aware of a way to show the info on the automation lane as you would like, but if you have the info line enabled at the top, you can click on any node to see it’s value. Not sure if this helps?

And once a node is focused, if you wish you can create LE presets and assign them to KCs to set the nodes at prescribed db’s. For example one I use often is pitch bend often setting it back to zero.

@SurrealistBunny . . . yes, thanks the screen shot is helpful . . . though, I don’t see the ā€œvalueā€ info at first, I found I only see it if I unselect the automation by clicking somewhere else first . . . because all nodes are selected by default, don’t like that. And I now see the last numbers when you hover the mouse are the node levels . . . just a different way of doing it I guess . . . can you tell I’m used to another DAW ? Still adapting to the differences. Thanks again for your reply !

@Greg_Purkey . . . thanks for your input, though, I don’t really understand what LE presets and KCs are . . .

My apologies for being cryptic.

KC…key commands. Cubase excells with KCs.

LE…logical editor. Collect some presets you are interested in, then learn it.

PLE…project logical editor. Learn it the same way as the LE.

For example setting a node back to zero. Thats a LE preset, and if no one else shows how…ill post it later on.

That’s not just info, you can click in those fields and edit the points by typing in values as well…

@Monotremata . . . yes, I learned that . . . was just remarking that when you first go there, the info about the automation nodes does not show up . . . there’s other info there . . . so you have to try to unselect the nodes and automation lanes before it shows up . . . not so intuitive, until you monkey with it for a while and get it.

@Greg_Purkey . . . thanks for that, I’ve played with the logical editor a bit, it’s not so logical to learn I found . . . but seems like the key to getting some things done quicker in Cubase.

The logical editor gets its name not from ā€œcommon senseā€ logic but from mathmatical logic as in boolean algebra:

But don’t worry, you don’t have to know or remember that. It will not be part of your upcoming test on Monday.

No need to do that. Simply Select the Automation Point you want to see or change. That will deselect any other Parts & Events.

Here is an example to take 1 node or more nodes if you lasso them, and set 1 or all to zero.

The macro which can be assigned to a KC:

  1. Edit Info Line
  2. Tab (I think that is a Cubase KC, but I’m doing this in Metagrid as well as adding a short time delay between steps)
  3. preset (pitch bend to zero)

Clear as mud? One of the best ways to learn these is to find a LE patch that you find useful, then look at how it was made.
