When you have the object-selection tool selected:
You can either left-click on an event to select it, or hold-and-drag to create an “area” selection:
However, if the area you want to select over is full of events, it’s very hard to area-select rather than dragging-and-dropping an event. I haven’t found a better way to select multiple events with this tool in this circumstance other than holding shift and selecting them all one-by-one.
Is there a better way?
Hi,
I’m sorry, I don’t think this is possible.

This would be so useful and saving us from hunting for that little free space that will trigger the selection box.
Maybe I misunderstood the question, but have you tried clicking and dragging while holding Shift? By default this should prevent a drag and drop, letting you draw a selection rectangle even with your mouse cursor on top of an event.

I was today years old when I learned this. I don’t feel so smart but I certainly feel happy.
Hi,
What about the Range Selection tool?
It’s not exactly the same, but it does the job too. You can even have combine Object/Range Selection tool.
