Let’s say I have have put 3 plugins on the channel but I need to add a group of 3 plugins (set to do a specific job) after it. Is is possible to do it without erasing existing plugins?
Is there a way to insert a plugin group/chain AFTER or BEFORE existing plugins without removing them
Hi,
You can insert the plug-in below and then move it up to change the order.
If your plug-in chain is: A-B-C and you drag and drop the C slot plug-in over the A slot plug-in, you get C-A-B. You can do this also with the empty plug-in slot. So if your plug-ins are A-B-empty and you drag and drop the empty plug-in slot over the B plug-in slot, you get A-empty-B.
You cannot do this for the whole group, you have to do it one by one.
Hi Martin, that’s not what I meant. I know how to insert plugins.
What I meant is it’d be nice to have a feature of plugin subchains consisting of any amount of plugins that can be inserted in any slot in the existing plugin chain. For example I may have a vocal chain consisting of 6 plugins. I may put some filter EQ on the vocal initially, some noise removal plugin, and then want to just add my vocal chain. Right now the way Cubase works in this scenario is very inefficient. I have to
- delete my filter EQ, insert the chain and then reload the EQ. To do that I have to either a1) move it temporarily to another slot on another channel or a2) save settings as a preset, remove it then reload it and recall the preset.
- create an empty channel, insert my chain, then drag each plugin one by one into desired channel, then delete the temporary channel
Either way this is a terrible way to work, lots of clicking and dragging for what could be a two-click function. It’s especially bad when there’s more than one plugin ahead of where I want to add subchain. And if it has any automation, then it’s a full blown workflow disaster.
All I’m saying it’d be nice to have this added sometime in the future if it hasn’t been suggested.
Hi,
As I mentioned, this is not possible with multiple plug-ins at once.
The above is the best way I have done it. I don’t think there is a non-convoluted way of achieving this.
Choose from these 3 options:
Import Track Archive
File>Load Selected Channels
Right Click on Inserts>Load FX Chain preset
If I understand you correctly, you just want a clean method to add x amount of inserts to x amount of existing inserts in any given channel? Like the added ones get inserted just after the existing ones?
Yes. Let’s say on the channel I already have
- Filter
- Compressor.
- EQ
I just want to add after it 3 plugins
- Autopan
- Tremolo
- Distortion
as a “preset” or “subchain” group (just random plugins in this example).
Idk, if I’m the only one who ever needed this?
Hi,
This is not possible. Please, add the optional feature-request tag to your post.
I don’t think it’s unusual to desire this. I would love that function. Currently, as mentioned above, the only method is to create a dummy track, load your plugs, then manually move them to existing plugs your real track, then possibly re-sort and do pre/post fader options.
If anyone knows of a better way, I’m totally open to ideas. So far all that exists are work-arounds.
The request IMO would be
“When using any insert, create a method/feature so it’s possible to add 1 or more plugs to any existing plugs, on any given track. By default, those plugs would be added at the bottom of the existing plugs.”
So you would still have to deal with issues such as the order if you didn’t go by default, and pre/post would be an issue too. But the core of the request is stated above.
If you find you are repeating common chains, you can use Waves Studio Rack or other 3rd party stuff and insert for example (autopan, tremolo, distortion) as a single plug. But you won’t have flexibility to change those without messing with Studio Rack..or whatever.
Yeah, Studiorack is not fun and I don’t want to use it.
It’s really simple workflow feature and hopefully we will see it in the future.
I edited my post with the “feature request” tag.
