Is there a way to open a separate window automatically when clicking on a midi track to edit?

Once I click on a midi track to edit it, I always have to open the editor in a separate window to make it large enough to make edits. Is there some default setting that will do this automatically, so I don’t have to keep opening the midi editor in a new window manually? I couldn’t find anything in settings.

The only thing I see in Preferences, is how to change what happens when you double click.
