I was working on a project, and cubase crashed. When I reopened it, the data was lost, and it didn’t give me an option to restore the project. I found a setting to adjust the autosave frequency in the project settings, but I wanna know if Cubase has a feature like some other DAWs where, after a crash, you can restore the project to its last state before the crash. Does such a feature exist in Cubase, or is autosave the only safeguard?
You need to have autosave enabled, so make sure that you enable it with a low enough interval and enough versions. But be aware that autosave does not save while the project is playing, only when it is stopped, which is a bit of a downer…
I use the “Save As New Version” every 20 minutes, or so. More often if I’m doing tricky edits. Every few hours I tidy up by deleting the older half of the resulting files. I also have it mapped to a button on my gaming mouse.
Problem is, you need to actively remember to do that. That is what the Autosave feature should solve, if it didn’t have the limitation that it doesn’t save while playing… so yeah, with autosave you need to remember to stop playback once in a while, to allow it to do its job. Not ideal, either.
You don’t have to do this manually. Go to
Edit/Preferences/General/Auto Save Options
and define the maximum number of Auto Save files. Once the maximum number of files is reached, the existing files are overwritten, starting with the oldest file.
