Is there a way to shorten a trill line to less than three squiggles? In certain instances I need to shorten the trill line just a tiny bit to avoid that is goes over the barline (or collides with something on the the next note) but I’ve been told that Dorico can’t shorten a trill line to something shorter than three squiggles. Surely this must be possible somehow? I’m open for workarounds as well. (I’ve had this problem before and I can’t seem to remember if I eventually solved it or just gave up.)
Aha. That could actually work! A little bit of work in all parts but should be doable in this piece at least. Thanks.
And there is (still) no way to shorten the minimum length in the whole piece I assume?
After a quick search in the forum and in the engraving options, it looks like this is indeed still a limitation…

my personal preference is to not use trill extension lines at all unless there are tied notes.
This was Beethoven’s practice as well. It is possible that the extension line only came into use because of possible ambiguity regarding the stopping point of the trill with tied notes.
Unfortunately I have to adhere to my publishers house style.
That’s understandable. I think that many players now expect to see the trill line on trills that are more than three notes.
