Is there another update before the next full paid update release?

Is there another update before the next full release?

Personally, hoping modulators will be fixed.

imo, new full paid releases shouldn’t happen until all current problems/bugs/implementations/bad protocols are fixed.

I’m very frustrated that some of my best creative and technical developments are hindered and put on hold by show-stopping problems.

Yeah , that’s never going to happen.

I respect you for living the dream, though!

Likewise here. Hoping for crucial small updates rather than glamorous new features.

  • The fascist default of “Step” automation in the CC Midi lanes needs to allow us both options that can be set to permanent, or quickly switched in between. I mostly need “Ramp”. Even using Macros does not allow this in the Info Line to be toggled.
  • Render In Place slows to a crawl if Blackmagic Decklink video player is activated.
  • Everytime I import track archives (that were set to Musical Mode on export), they always get imported in Time Linear mode. “Musical” mode is already set to default in Prefs, but yet this bug continues to happen.

I can mostly live with other limitations (such as unable to export multiple videos based on markers), but these are the real show-stoppers for me.

As the recent Cubase history shows, there’ll probably be at least a .0.40 update with more fixes, probably around the end of september. I don’t really worry about that. After this, each and every one among us expect something different coming from it.

Care to elaborate ?

I wish it were illegal for software companies to do otherwise or they were forced to pay a penalty tax, it’s really not morally sound or ethical to keep charging money for features that were broken in a paid version but then don’t get fixed until a new paid version has been released…

…thus forcing a user to pay for an update for a version they don’t care to update to right away but have to in order to fix the problems for the features they already paid for a year(s) ago. Sometimes using Cubendo/Steinberg software feels like a strange combination of vaporware-extortion-fraud-anti business-false advertising-lemon pushing.

Fix what already exists, before forcing users to pay for an update to fix what they already paid for. Releasing one more free update for a previous version after a new version release is not good enough unless everything gets fixed in it.

There is virtually no software that doesn’t have bugs. There would never be any updates if software companies had to fix all bugs first. Saying that obvious bugs should be fixed and not left. Some even get into the next version!

I never said there was

Sure there would - fixing the bugs would be updates themselves, just not paid… and then once they are fixed - they release a paid update.

This is what needs to stop happening.

At the very least, devs need to be more transparent and explain why something is difficult to fix, has carried over to a new paid version, and what the roadmap is on fixing it.

Did Steinberg has started to use AI to inspect its code and try to fix bugs, just as are doing so many software (and non software) companies ?

That’s a good one. I’m not sure, they’re not saying anything at all. But it is true AI can help inspect code and come up with solutions. Not all perfect of course, but it could definitely help.

My day job is for one of the largest software companies on the planet. I remember one time years ago that one of their premier products had over 25,000 open reported bugs in the queue. Granted, it’s enterprise software about 500 times more complex than a DAW, but still that number was staggering.

Go tell that to people that make software for the medical field. A field where unfixed bugs can cost lives.

Or NASA, or Military, aviation or high value/risk civilian infrastructure (Nuclear, Dams, Electrical, etc).

Media Production/Broadcast is supposed to meet these specifications despite peoples lives maybe not depending on it - although, much of our audio equipment innovations come from mission critical military/aerospace needs - like microphone SPL dynamic range being able to withstand incoming enemy artillery fire while maintaining the operators voice audibility calling in coordinates for their own artillery response… a microphone could be the difference between a battle won, and a battle lost.

I worked in tv broadcast and there were plenty of bugs encoder software and all the other software we used in the headend.

Again, no one here has ever said that bugs are a myth. We have indeed had some commercial planes full of passengers plummet to the earth due to mechanical/software bugs.

The contention is, is that those bugs were direly treated with a thorough investigation and remedied - not ignored and carried over into the next iteration of that planes model.

In regards to broadcast, film, etc… did your production just continue reproducing bug-mistakes live on air? Was the faulty equipment done away with, bypassed, thrown out?

I’ve also worked in broadcast, high-level broadcast, where millions have been spent on production and millions in ad space have been bought of which millions were spent on creating those ads… There’s no room for show-stopping bugs. That equipment/software gets thrown out and replaced if we don’t have a hotline to the devs to get a hotfix patch. I’m not talking about bugs like, a jumbled up font text in a operational sub-menu no-one sees on the broadcast output.

the op:

All I said was you will never get it bug free and would Wait forever for a newer version. If there are show stopper bugs then they definitely should be fixed before moving on.

There’s also the concept of technical debt. Essentially, the more unfixed bugs you have in your code, the higher the chance they’ll make the code harder to maintain and fix. Essentially, you’re playing a game of Monte Carlo where the odds increase for every new bug or issue that’s not solved. Eventually, you’re gonna win.

I also wish software companies would prioritize foundational things, and not consider new features affordable until the core program is rock solid.

What is wrong with the modulators?

Assignments randomly disappear

And zero protocol/management integration

Dunno. I’m so incredibly happy with what Cubase has offered on updates, especially from 11 and above, that bugs don’t really bother me.

Yeah ok, would be great to fix stuff, but the guys from SB have thrown everything, including the kitchen sink in the latest updates…incredibly greatful.

They should not be a Pro-only feature. In fact, a lot of Pro-only features should not be Pro-only. Heck, even the 8-Track version of Bitwig has modulators.
