Is there any Chance to get Medieval2 (for Finale) also in Dorico

I really like that Finale-Plugin is there any chance to get this or anything alike in Dorico?

Not a chance, I’m afraid, at least not in its current form. It would need to be completely rebuilt… if Dorico would even allow such an integration.

I’ve been working on a chant solution. It’s a thorny problem.

However it is an extraordinary plugin and an incredible job done by it’s developpers. It would be so cool to get it or its functionallity in anyway also in Dorico.

Dorico is a lot more structure in what notation “is”, and what it means – and plainsong is so different – that it would require a new feature from the team for writing plainsong.

Your best option is the Gregorio project, which is a text (TeX) based system for creating plainchant. It also has a library of most standard chants. You can create your own chant as graphics, which you can then import into Dorico.

As far as I know, “Medieval2” is not just for plainchant. but covers different types of “medieval” Forms of Mensural Notation in use up to the early renaissance music.

One of the most charming aspects, is to work with it not only to get the music in print, but in a regular notation software with all its different export formats.

Ah: fair enough. Dorico can handle most forms of notes, but things like ligatures are not easy.

Sure I that’s, why I like that Finale Plugin

Here’s something I’ve just knocked up, “fairly quickly” (i.e. since yesterday). It plays back correctly! Sing along if you know it.

The first colored notes are an abortive attempt to create a ligature: I’m still working on creating a notehead set with the stems on the other side for Longs.

A few issues: stems can’t be colored; and the pairs of rests can’t be alternated vertically.
I suspect a bit more work in Dorico is needed, before finishing off in Affinity Designer.

… and a few minutes in AD to do the ligatures, stems, and a bit of tidying up.

The architecture of Dorico does not support plugins, And is not likely to. You can find the reasons for this discussed at length in this forum.
