is this best or normal practice?

Hi

When I’ve finished a project and want to add fx to the various midi tracks I mix down each track to a separate audio file and then add fx to each audio file. Is this the right way to go or should I be trying a different approach?

Thanks, CD

That’s one way you can do it.

If it’s the same fx you are adding, making a group channel, adding the fx there, and then routing your audio chs to the group would be easier and more efficient.

You can also add fx to the instrument ch that houses the VSTi before you mix down. Just bear in mind that if you do that, you will effect everything that is associated with that instrument ch.

Cheers.

Hi Colin
There are a variety of ways to do this - you’ve already had one suggestion and I’m sure that more will follow.
The only thing I’ll add here is a suggestion that you always keep a dry copy of the tracks so that you can go back to them in the future if you fancy trying a different mix.

Neil

Thanks All

I’ll take on board your helpful suggestions.
