I am having to learn an entirely new program, and it feels like a neurotic program that sometimes does what it’s supposed to and other times it doesn’t. I exported a song out of Cubase 14 Pro, I have a midi track that controls a kemper profile player preset and CC changes. Sometimes it switches to the correct preset, sometimes its offset, other times it doesn’t change at all.
Is this really more stable than Cubase 14 Pro? The song works flawlessly in Cubase 14 Pro, This is insane. I don’t need lyrics or Chords view, so I don’t know why spent the money. I thought I could export a song out of Cubase 14 Pro and it would work with a little bit of setup. But I feel I might as well buy Ableton Live if I have to start over again at least there is significant online instruction on it. I am not a believer at this point, I just don’t see a reason to leave Cubase 14.
Is this really more stable and reliable? I have a stout 3 unit rack mount pc running my rig.
The kemper has a Morph function, it’s CC#11, it Works great in Cubase 14, does nothing in VST Live Pro 2.
If you need only one song, there is no need to leave Cubase. But if you like to use dozens of songs and arrange them in different setlists. VSTL might be the better solution.
Ok, I restarted my Kemper and it started switching correctly, I have not had the problem before. But, I know better than to rule that out now. Still unclear if there is an offset in VST Live vs Cubase, in Cubase program change 1 is preset 1 in the Kemper.
I guess there is going to be a learning curve I wasn’t expecting. I think I can see why this will be better over a setlist of songs compared to Cubase.
VST Live is for live performing. It’s like a “show controller”. Plays your backing tracks, video files, hosts your VST’s, lyrics, notes, etc
Doing this handling every single song in a separated container, so you Dont’t need to mess around on the same timeline and track structure for your different songs and possible setlist combination.
No, it not means VSTLive can compete with the hundreds of advanced editing features in Cubase Pro 14. That app is for different purpose.

Thank you, I can see how it would be better without having to manage everything on one time line. Makes sense. I still have 1 midi CC issue that’s very odd. And it’s CC change that happens later and works correctly. Will have to work through it. I’ve deleted and re-added and this 1 CC does not want to work. Growing pains I guess.
Try in preferences/midi to select chase events but DESELECT chase on start.
This way, as soon as you activate a song, all midi cc/program change that are at 1.1.1 will be sent immediately, even before starting transport.
