Is this the proper way to get a stereo mix from a 5.1 project?

To render my 5.1 mix to stereo for uploading to non 5.1 services, I experimented a bit, and came up with this:

  1. Created two extra buses in addition to the 5.1, a Downmix bus and a Stereo bus.

  2. From the Main 5.1 bus, I put a send to the Downmix bus.

  3. In the Downmix bus, I inserted the MixConvert v6 FX, choosing Stereo from the drop down menu.

  4. In the same bus, I added a send to the Stereo bus

  5. As usual, I added the standard limiter in the strip just in case to all three buses.

This seems to work fine, I did tests and I can hear all the instruments that I panned to front, center, back, etc.

I’m sure there’s more than one way to do this, but is this one of the correct ways, or not so much?

It can be done much simpler than that.
Just create an extra stereo bus, send the 5.1 signal to it. Done.

The 5.1>stereo fold down will be a standard ITU fold down. You can change it by accessing the send panner through the big channel inspector window the downmix module will have replaced the panner so you can adjust the settings there.
