ISSUE: Cubase 13 Pro will randomly reassign output busses to "Main"

Every once in a while, I will load a project, and Cubase will randomly reassign output busses to Main (the main stereo out of Cubase).

This usually becomes very apparent in the mix, so I know when this happens, and I will then just look at what is routed into main and route those channels back where they belong (it’s easy for me to tell because in all of my projects, there’s only one channel that’s routed into Main, so if there’s more than one, this will be a manifestation of that bug).

This only happens after opening a project that was previously saved, and I am 100% certain that I am not “accidentally” rerouting these channels.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any reproduction steps, since this (luckily) happens rarely, and I don’t do anything except for opening a previously saved project.

Perhaps the fact that this only happens with channels being rerouted to Main (not to any other channels) will be a clue as to where the issue is.

This is a serious enough issue that I had to isolate my Main by creating a channel called Stereo Out that’s routed into Main and that I use as a “fake” Main, and before printing a mix, I always check the routing into Main to make sure there’s only Stereo Out going in. If I see any other channels routed into it, I know that this bug hit me.

Hi,

Are the tracks disabled before by any chance?

No.

The tracks that exhibit this behavior are all (sub-)group channels, BTW.

Can you post a screenshot of your Audio Connections → Outputs? I am a bit confused by your description.

Will do, once I get back into the studio.

I’ll post that, and some more explanatory screenshots to help clarify.

Here are the audio connections → outputs:

I’m using control room, so nothing much to see here. FWIW, here’s the control room page:

To help illuminate the issue, here’s what I’m talking about: I only have one group/channel going to Main, like this (all the mixing/processing is happening previously in the signal flow chain):

Every once in a while, after loading a Cubase project, there will be other, random subgroups from the project routed into main, which obviously destroys the mix. In this screenshot, I did that manually with one of the group channels that sometimes get erroneously rerouted:

This groups needs to be, unless the bug hits, routed to no target (I only use it to export stems for some live gear):

I hope this clarifies the issue!
