Issue - "Cubase has become unstable ..."

My last two projects have crashed. The 1st, several times. The latest just did for the first time. It has happened moments after a ‘Save’. With the first project, I saved as a new name, opened it and continued working. It would save correctly for several sessions. I did complete the project.
Attached are the .dmp files for the last 3 events. Can anyone give me some insight into this?
Cubase 14.0.10 64bit2025.1.7 16.58.15.340.dmp (2.9 MB)
Cubase 14.0.10 64bit2024.12.26 19.58.05.539.dmp (3.0 MB)
Cubase 14.0.10 64bit2024.12.25 17.01.29.661.dmp (3.1 MB)

Hi,

Reported to Steinberg, thank you.

Thank you, Martin.

Hi,

Could you please enable the Usage Logging in the Preferences > General and then attach the UsageLog file (JSON) to get a better picture, of what’s happening? Thank you.

Will do.

Martin,
Another crash today. Here is the .dmp but it appears that I cannot attach the Usage Logs…
Cubase 14.0.10 64bit2025.1.20 14.20.30.570.dmp (1.7 MB)

Can you get them here? https://drive.google.com/open?id=18zQQWtRnjwhp7MlFzqQNDKlbuZ92X_CV&usp=drive_fs

Hi,

I need an access. Could you please make the files visible for all with the link?

Done…

I figured instead of starting a new thread I would add to this one.

I have a beast of a PC running windows 10, Threadripper 3970X with 128gb RAM type situation, never had an issue on versions from 11 through to 13, literally never crashed ever and everything was fast.

Since I’ve upgraded to 14 it has crashed multiple times and it is frequently lagging out, I think it’s when it auto saves, it literally will start ‘thinking’ with the loading mouse cursor for up to 30 seconds.

Also sometimes, not all times, I would say 50/50 when I do a manual save, which I do regularly, it will do the same thing, that’s why I think the lag/thinking issue is auto save, because it acts the same, takes 30 seconds to save.

Not sure if there is a quick fix? Cubase 13 was super stable and super fast, I want that again.

Another thing that makes it lag out is sometimes when I hit space to stop playing, I do have loads of tracks with lots going on but again, it’s never been an issue with previous versions.

Other things similar that make it do something semi strenuous will make it lag out, only on 14 has this begun happening.

I haven’t experienced anything like that with 14. I’ve had a couple crashes which is a little concerning, but Steinberg seems to be engaged with the issue.
I got some good suggestions a while back for performance issues - CPU load Issue with 13.0.41? - #13 by Uniichiban

Definitely not a performance issue, I have no power limiting on Cubase and have Project Lasso with Cubase being the only program set to Bitsum Highest - The issue I face is buggish.

I can click save after making many changes and all good, a split second and done. Large project, no issues.

I can make a tiny adjustment such as change volume of 1 track, hit save and bam, 30 seconds wait time.

I can hit save after making no changes and it does the same, or it doesn’t, it’s random.

It’s not just save either as I’ve mentioned, whatever ‘improvements’ they’ve added between 13 and 14, seems to be bugged.

Another Crash…
When is occurs:
I do a Save.
I go to Media/Empty Trash and a moment later… “Cubase has become unstable.”

There’s a few settings in your bios that you can try.
Try disabling PSS support first and see if there’s a difference.
If not leave pss support disabled and also disable SVM.
C12 and c13 were similar. C14 seems like it uses more ressources.
You can also disable C state and power setting on" Typical current "
For the USB try disabling XCHI

Hope this can be useful.
