Issue with Random RAM Spikes

I’m experiencing a strange issue. When I select a VST instrument track, my RAM usage suddenly drops, and I have plenty of available memory. But as soon as I click away to another track, my RAM usage spikes back to 99%, and the project freezes. I’ve already rendered and disabled almost all tracks, so I don’t understand why this happens. Why would clicking on a VST instrument give me RAM back, but clicking away causes a huge memory spike again? Its making playback and recording impossible. I’d appreciate any advice on what might cause this and how to fix.

Hi,

Are you on Mac or Windows? Could you provide some details about your system, please?

Hi,

Open macOS’s Activity Monitor and try to observe some anomalies (not just in Cubase, but in any other application), like RAM spikes. Maybe you will find which application/process produces the spikes. It might be something else, but Cubase.

Replying for anyone who may have the issue in future…
Cubase sometimes proactively stores memory for specific vst plugins with ASIO guard.
To fix, click on studio in the top menu, then click on VST plugin manager, then select your most used/powerful VSTs, in the bottom section, click to disable ASIO guard…walla all your RAM is back. crazy
